Lancaster Leisure Park Flushed With Success

Lancaster Leisure Park Flushed With Success

Date: 15/06/2017

It’s one of Lancaster’s busiest visitor attractions- but for some visitors it’s been a case of the ‘loos blues’ at Lancaster Leisure Park.  So, now the old toilet block is getting a much-needed refit, investing significant pounds to make it much more pleasant to spend a penny!

Lancaster Leisure Park, on Wyresdale Road, is home to GB Antiques, the largest antiques and furniture centres in the country.  With an expanding family of businesses onsite, including popular new additions such as the Countrystyle Kitchen and the community forest garden, visitor numbers have risen to over 240,000 a year.   It was clear that the existing toilet facilities, open 364 days a year, could no longer take the strain!

Owner Allan Blackburn said; “Our restrooms don’t even get a break on the ‘day of rest’ as Sunday is our busiest day.  Regular favourites like the Sunday Carvery and especially the annual events like the Christmas Markets and Lancaster Food and Drink Festival, are so popular now, that the current block was in danger of becoming the oldest antique onsite.   It was desperately in need of some TLC, but we’ve decided to go one step further than a quick makeover, and give it a complete upgrade that we think even Laurence Llewellyn Bowen would approve of!”

Work to give the site a new Royal Flush is in the hands of project manager Carl Johanson. Using local companies including Heysham-based company “Kelly’s”, the bespoke refit will feature wood style fitted cubicles, non slip tiled floor, better disabled access, an extra-large baby changing area, new mirrors and LED downlighters.  In keeping with the park’s main attraction, the result is planned to be more ‘vintage splendour’ than a ‘Del Boy dash’.  The work, starting this week, is intended to take 3 weeks, during which time full facilities, including disabled access, will be available in the Brewery and Restaurant.

Allan adds; “Being so popular now, it’s nice to think families can spend the whole day here in comfort, taking time to relax in the garden and restaurant without needing to dash home.  Our leaflet says “Relax, Eat, Drink, Shop, Browse, Play”, so it’s fantastic to finally be giving our visitors somewhere nice to relax- and enjoy spending their pennies in comfort!”
